INTRODUCTION. ALMOST FORGOTTEN TERMS AND NOTIONS GROWN-UPS AND SWIMMING In a
traditional way, swimming instructors believe that a grown-up learns more difficult
(or not at all) to swim… in general, the grown-up exaggerates and “considers”
the fear a major obstacle; but fear is quite necessary, all the people have
fears and also the author of this book – fear gives the chance to fight it,
to understand it… The truth
which results from the practice is that the grown-ups, especially women, can
easily learn; boys have a less disposition to be “directed” and it is more
difficult to instruct them. This remark is
observed even from early childhood – girls learn easier – boys more difficult
… Why would the grown-ups learn to swim easier? I. the grown-up
is a conscious and capable being so, it is easier for the grown-ups to
concentrate upon an exercise; they can understand, memorize, practice while
thinking. Children do all these only with a sense of conservation associated
with the sense of water, almost in an unconscious way. II. the grown-up,
by its mostly exaggerated fear, is careful – most of the children are
imprudent…; to rationalize – if the fear exists unconditionally and it is
imminent, lets use it in order to awake the curiosity to know “something” new”;
the grown-up can do this under these circumstances: - if it is asked to have a GREAT will
to learns (1), - if it is clear – only by it’s own powers
(2), and - the instructor shouldn’t let him “believe”
that by working superficially “something will come up”, “just because”… (3). III. the grown-up
must always practice, repeat and without “hope” the simplified algorithm of
swimming teaching.
